Louisiana News
Many news stories out of Louisiana in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita focus on the unscrupulous insurance companies who are attempting to reduce the payments they owe their customers. Some insurers claim that water damage caused by overflowing or destroyed levees is not covered under standard homeowners or hurricane insurance because it is flood damage, while some companies are even going so far as to deny claim payments to their customers unless they sign waivers stating that flooding caused the damage to their property rather than covered areas such as wind driven rain and falling debris.
Several state agencies are now looking into the allegations of illegal insurance practices in regards to payment of claims for hurricane and flood damaged property. It is quite possible that even the state Attorney General will take legal action against not only specific insurance companies but the federal government’s mishandling of the entire flood insurance situation.
These companies who attempt to take advantage of people in their time of need are underhanded and reprehensible, and you should not have to suffer to satisfy their greed. Contact an insurance claim attorney immediately. You may have the right to take action against these companies who are attempting to profit off of your misery
