Texas News
The state of Texas generously opened both their homes and pocketbooks to the unfortunate victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Astrodome became an enormous shelter for thousands of displaced citizens of Louisiana, and hotels and even private homes became welcome refuges from the devastation caused by Katrina.
Once Hurricane Rita hit southern Texas these people who were so welcoming and generous were forced to leave the safety of their own homes and evacuate to points further inland. As the flood waters recede and the winds calm many people are returning to find their homes severely damaged and their livelihoods washed into the Gulf of Mexico. Compounding the difficulty of the situation are insurance companies who refuse to acknowledge the claims made by their customers for disaster relief. Texas is now considering joining with Mississippi and Louisiana in suing several large insurance carriers for bad faith insurance violations and other questionable business practices.
If your insurance company coerced you to waive your rights to disaster relief or outright rejected your claim on questionable interpretation of your policy you may have a right to take legal action against them. Contact an insurance claim lawyer immediately and take action against these companies who betray your trust and take advantage of you when you need help the most.
